So You Want To Move to Canada Eh?

Since the election of Donald Trump, the Canadian Immigration site has repeatedly been crashing with traffic from the US.  Want to venture north? Here are a few ways you might be able to do it.

1) Come in on a Student Visa, study at post secondary institution and eventually apply for citizenship.

2) Come in on a Work Visa – although your employer must prove to the Canadian government why you fit the bill better than a Canadian. Are you more skilled? Better qualified? Really that unique?

3) Move north with a Canadian spouse or common law partner or maybe if you’re lucky you can snag a marital partner during a visa free visit. But you’d better brush up on your charms as you only have 180 days to do it.

4) Invest in a Canadian property because you can afford to do so. You must have 35-50% downpayment and be willing to live a life of leisure. Hmmm this one isn’t so bad…

Whether we see an increase of Americans coming  here to live remains to be seen. Our rigorous immigration process, high cost of housing and taxes might be deterrents.

My prediction?  A Trump led America will be seen as a risky place to invest. Canada will become even more attractive to Americans and to the rest of the world.  Why? Because we’re seen as a very peaceful stable place and our “brand” is considered to be strong, fair, tolerant and welcoming. How true eh?
